This beautiful jug has been designed by Carl Sigmund
Luber for the company “Johann von Schwarz, Fabrik artistischer
Fayencen, Nürnberg“. “Artistischer Fayencen“
means artistic faiences (glazed earthenware).
In the case of this jug “Spekstein“ (Soapstone) was
used, which is very hard and fire and acid resistant.
The jug was glazed with a turquoise blue glass overlay (“dégradé”).
In fact it is difficult to decide on the first view whether it
is made out of earthenware or glass.
The jug is surrounded by a pewter mounting with an elegant handle.
The decoration is showing stylized floral forms.
An interesting detail is the handle that is a (rare) example of
good functionality in art nouveau design. If held with few fingers
through the top end the jug is hanging stable and comfortable
without spilling liquid. Holding the handle at the lower bow with
four fingers between the jug and the handle allows elegant and
easy serving.
Very nice condition, one minor chip at the rim of
the spout. Some superficial wear to the glazing at the waist of
the jug, obvious signs of use. The mounting is in perfect condition.
Marked “A“ or “V“ and with
“8687“ at the bottom. In white lines visible what
may be a “XVI“ scratched in before glazing.

Esta bella jarra ha sido diseñada por Carl
Sigmund Luber para la compañía "Johann von
Schwarz, Fabrik artistischer Fayencen, Nürnberg“. “Artistischer
Fayencen“ significa cerámica artística glaseada.
En el caso de esta jarra se ha utilizado “Spekstein“
(Saponita) cerámica muy dura y resistente al fuego y al
ácido.
La jarra ha sido glaseada en azul turquesa “dégradé”
y de hecho es difícil al primer vistazo decidir si esta
hecha de cerámica o de vidrio.
La jarra esta rodeada de una montura de estaño con un asa
muy elegante. La decoración representa motivos florales
estilizados.
Un detalle interesante es el asa que es un raro ejemplo de buena
funcionalidad en diseño art nouveau. Si se sostiene con
los dedos desde el extremo superior la jarra se mantiene estable
sin salpicar líquido. Sosteniendo el asa en la parte inferior
con cuatro dedos entre esta y la jarra permite servir de una forma
muy fácil y elegante.
Muy buena condición, un pequeño desportillado
en el borde. Un poco de desgaste superficial en el glaseado en
la “cintura”, signos obvios del uso. La montura esta
en una condición perfecta.
Marcada “A“ o “V“ y “8687“
en el fondo. En líneas blancas bajo el glaseado lo que
parece un “XVI“ grabado antes del glaseado.
